ChemQuest Privacy Policy

Last updated: 18 July 2026

ChemQuest is a GCSE Chemistry revision app. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep it in plain English because many of our users are students.

The short version: we collect your email, a username you choose, and your revision progress so the app works. Your written exam answers are marked by an AI service. We never sell your data and we never show ads. You can delete your account and all its data from inside the app at any time.

Who we are

ChemQuest is operated by the ChemQuest developer. For anything in this policy, contact: adam.quinlanjones@gmail.com.

What we collect and why

We do not collect your real name, location, contacts or photos, and we do not use advertising or tracking for ads.

AI marking

When you submit written answers for marking, or ask for an AI explanation of a mistake, the question and your answer text are sent through our own server to Anthropic (the company behind the Claude AI) to generate the marks, feedback or explanation. Your email and username are not included. Anthropic does not use data sent through its API to train its AI models. Please do not type personal information into your exam answers.

Subscriptions (ChemQuest Pro)

ChemQuest Pro is an optional subscription bought through the Google Play Store. Payment is handled entirely by Google Play - we never see your card or bank details. We use RevenueCat, a subscription-management service, to check whether your subscription is active; it receives your purchase receipt and an anonymous user ID, not your email or username. You can cancel any time in the Play Store's Subscriptions page.

Leaderboards

Your username, XP and rank are visible to other ChemQuest users on the leaderboards. Choose a username that does not identify you in real life if you prefer to stay private.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your data. We do not share it with anyone else unless the law requires it.

Children and young people

ChemQuest is designed for GCSE students (typically aged 14-16). We only collect what the app needs to work, we do not show ads, we do not sell data, and privacy settings default to the most private options available. If you are under 13, please ask a parent or guardian before creating an account. Parents can contact us at the email above with any questions or to request deletion of a child's account.

How long we keep your data

For as long as you have an account. Deleting your account (Settings > Delete account) permanently removes your profile, progress, leaderboard entries and AI usage records. Crash and analytics data is retained by Firebase for a limited period defined by Google, then deleted.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it (the in-app delete does this instantly). Email us at the address above. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update this page and the "last updated" date above.
